He loves her.
Some more cut content with Lucanis
This time in Weisshaupt library. Dialogue branches that were cut from this wheel. Alas, the audio was also removed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Rook: It could work. Lucanis: But it probably won't. Rook: But it might. Lucanis: Sure. And I've got a bridge in Treviso to sell you.*
*Reference to George C. Parker, who among other things, sold bridges that he didn't own. In other words, Lucanis thinks that Rook is very naive.
Rook: It's why you're here. Handle the hard stuff. Lucanis: Might need a raise after this. Rook: Just helping you be the greatest assassin you can be. Lucanis: I already am. Rook: Not 'til you bag a god.
Rook: Watch and learn. Lucanis: After you. Rook: This is how you end an Archdemon. Lucanis: I'm watching. And learning.
Not sure about the context, but it's probably a sarcastic option and Rook is waving a dagger.

The bouquet you put together for Emmrich's parents is so lovely. That big flower in the middle? So, at the end of the game there's a picture of two flowers, and one changes depending on who you romance. I think it's the same as the one if you romance Emmrich! I couldn't find a screenshot of it, so I need to beat the game again to be sure.
Tumblr media
Update - @cloudselkie shared the image of the flowers, it looks like a combination of both!

So this is my first babble here but I can't stop thinking about Grey Warden Rook and Emmrich discussing their views on mortality. Grey Warden Rook with their lifespan shortened after the Joining, having accepted long ago that they could hear the Calling at any moment. Emmrich being afraid of facing his own mortality, looking for a way to avoid it, at a later point being insecure of the romance and his own feelings and telling Rook that there's a possibility they may outlive him even with the Warden's Calling.
I just think of the potential of the argument when his partner is a Grey Warden, and how they would feel when he mentions the Calling.
Definitely my Grey Warden Rook would feel upset about it at first but then she would reassure him, telling him that she's completely aware of how valuable is the time she has left, and that she's sure of how and with whom wants to share it with.
I'm loving Emmrook with a Grey Warden so much because my initial thought before playing the game was that Emmrich would help Rook to accept mortality but it turned out to be the other way around, and it's so beautiful 💙
I just.... Need to write about this 🥺

It seems like an intentional move to me. Rook sees that memory fragment at the very beginning of the story so they do not actually have a full picture and still think of Solas as god. "Be the god she needs", Rook said (or something close to it). And people always demand impossible things of gods. It feels easier to expect Deus ex machina sometimes rather than face the truth.
I'm still mad at that first Crossroads memory for implying that Solas should have tried to cure that one elf of the Blight, and criticising him for not trying it. Like holy shit! As far as Rook should be concerned, there IS NO CURE FOR THE BLIGHT. Even Mythal says the only 'cure' is to become a Grey Warden, and she's been around for all of them. Way to imply to new players that he just can't be bothered to do the impossible.

Nothing will keep you from me
So what happened after Rook was pulled from the Fade prison? A lot of tears, in my opinion.
Here on ao3
This was it, they were so close! This time they would find Rook, he was sure of it! He was full of energy, almost crackling with it, so unlike the shape he was in during the past few weeks. He would barely eat, his sleep was riddled with nightmares and all he could focus on was researching how to get Rook back. He wouldn't let anything stand in his way now, he would tear the blasted Veil down himself if that was what it took.
He was scanning the Fade around them, trying to find a way to breach the prison that held his love. And then he saw it.
“There, a light!”
He stuck his arm into the fade tear, heedless of the consequences it might bring. All that mattered was finally finding him. As he was searching with his hand, he felt something brush against his fingers. And then hold his hand with Rook's unmistakable grip.
“Heave!” he yelled. He wouldn't lose him now, not again! Taash and Lucanis grabbed at him and together they pulled, putting every ounce of their strength into the attempt. And then Rook was there, slamming into Emmrich, making him lose his balance and fall backwards.
Emmrich couldn't remember a happier moment in his life than this one, lying on the ground with Rook sprawled across his body. Relief was coursing warmly through him and nothing else mattered, not the Blight, not the gods, nothing but his love. He could distantly hear Taash and Lucanis cheering and then what sounded like Taash clapping Lucanis on the shoulder.
He turned his attention back to Rook. He seemed dazed and Emmrich thought he could see tears drying on his cheeks. He was awfully quiet, his eyes wild and Emmrich was left wondering just what must have happened to him in Solas’ prison to leave him in such a state.
He sat up carefully, taking Rook with him, but instead of allowing Emmrich to stand up, Rook stayed where he was, only shifting himself a little to sit across Emmrich’s lap. He raised a hand (was there a faint tremor to it?) to touch Emmrich's cheek, fingers catching on the stubble there. He studied Emmrich's face with a look of bewilderment.
“How long was I in there?”
A lifetime. An eternity. “A few weeks, darling, but what matters is that you are here now.”
“I-” Rook's voice cracked. “I thought I'd never see you again.”
He buried his face in Emmrich's chest, clutching at him like he was the only real thing in the world. His shoulders started shaking with quiet sobs and Emmrich could feel tears soaking into his shirt. His heart broke. He had never seen Rook so vulnerable before, so small. He drew Rook closer to him, fiercely protective. If Solas were there, Emmrich would have torn him to shreds for what he'd done. He looked up to see that Lucanis and Taash had mercifully retreated to give them privacy. Rook's sobs subsided and he looked up at Emmrich, eyes still glistening with tears.
“I'm sorry,” he whispered, voice filled with guilt.Emmrich gaped at him. He was sorry? They failed him, he failed him, and he was sorry? They should have found him sooner, he should have worked harder, he should have-
Tears gathered in Emmrich's eyes. After all the misery, all the time of just barely holding himself together, he lost it. All the tears that had been pushed back while working on finding Rook came back with a vengeance, flowing hotly down his cheeks. He was hugging Rook to him tightly, desperately needing to feel his warmth, his heartbeat. He would never let him go again.
“My love, I am sorry for not finding you sooner,” he whispered back. He closed his eyes, resting his cheek against Rook's unruly curls. They tickled his nose, a feeling he usually abhorred, but he couldn't bring himself to move, caught up in inhaling Rook's scent.
Rook chuckled wetly beneath him. “I know your nose is itching right now.” He slowly raised his head to look Emmrich in the face and there it was, that perfect, brilliant smile that was only for him. Emmrich's breath caught in his chest. He was here! Really here, cheeks stained with tears and eyes bright with joy.
And then Rook kissed him, needy and wild. It was messy, their faces still wet with tears and Emmrich had never been kissed like that before. So much raw passion and longing and… love. Emmrich drew back a little to a discontented sound from Rook.
“I love you, dearest,” he breathed against Rook's lips.
Rook's cheeks were flushed and he was looking at Emmrich with such adoration that Emmrich almost felt himself undeserving.
“I love you too, vhenan,” Rook whispered. He then slotted himself against Emmrich's body with a happy sigh, tucking his head under Emmrich's chin. They sat there in silence for a while, basking in each other's presence. Then Emmrich spoke up hesitantly, not really wanting the moment to end.
“Darling, I think we should return to the Lighthouse. The others will be worried about you.”
“Yeah, right,” Rook answered with the same reluctance, but he got off his lap and Emmrich found himself sorely missing his warmth. He took Rook's offered hand to raise himself up as well and decided not to let go even after he was safely on his feet. Just in case.
They walked hand in hand over to Taash and Lucanis, who were sitting on a rocky outcrop, watching the sea.
“No, Spite, we are not chasing seagulls. They stink.”
“Want. Pretty. Feather!”
Taash looked up as they approached. “Are you two done kissing? I really don't wanna wait for Spite to decide he wants to jump off a cliff or something.”
“Yeah,” Rook grinned, though he was still wiping at his eyes. He squeezed Emmrich's hand. “Let's get back home.”

A Sweet Brew
The sun hung low over Treviso, casting the cobblestone streets in hues of gold and amber. The town was alive with soft chatter and the scent of freshly baked bread wafting from nearby shops. Rook walked alongside Lucanis Dellamorte, their pace unhurried, their steps falling into an easy rhythm.
Lucanis, as always, carried himself with a quiet confidence. His dark hair fell just slightly over his forehead, and his deep-set eyes—dark as a starless night—glanced at her with an intensity that made her cheeks flush. The silver detailing of his dyed leather armor glinted in the fading sunlight, but tonight, he seemed like a man enjoying stolen time with someone who had slowly begun to mean everything to him.
“You keep looking at me like that, and people will start talking,” Rook teased, her lips curving into a smile.
Lucanis smirked, a faint tilt of his head betraying his amusement. “Let them talk. Non mi importa. Tonight, it’s just us.” His voice, low and velvety, sent a shiver down her spine.
They arrived at Cafe Pietra, a warm, rustic tavern nestled near the heart of the square. Lucanis opened the door, his hand brushing hers as he gestured for her to enter.
“After you, tesoro,” he said softly, his gaze lingering on her with a rare gentleness.
The tavern’s cozy interior was alive with the hum of conversation, and the rich aroma of roasted coffee. They chose a table tucked near the open railing, where the view of the twinkling lights of Treviso framed them in golden light.
As they settled in, the barmaid approached, pen poised to take their orders.
“I’ll have coffee,” Rook said with confidence, then added, “but sweet. Really sweet. Lots of milk. And whipped cream on top, please.”
The barmaid nodded and turned to Lucanis, who leaned back in his chair, one brow raised in amusement.
“Un caffè nero,” he said simply. His voice, smooth and measured, contrasted with the teasing look he shot Rook.
Once the barmaid left, Lucanis rested his chin on his hand and gave her a slow, almost predatory smile. “Milk, sugar, whipped cream. Cara mia, you might as well have ordered dessert.”
Rook leaned forward, undeterred. “And? What’s wrong with that? It’s good.”
“It’s childish,” Lucanis countered, though his voice was tinged with affection. “But fitting. You do have a way of bringing a certain… levity to things.”
She grinned, pushing a strand of hair behind her ear. “You mean I make you laugh.”
“I mean you make my days lighter,” he said, his words quieter, almost as if he hadn’t meant to let them slip. His dark eyes softened, and for a moment, there was no teasing, no veil of sarcasm between them. Just honesty.
Rook felt her breath catch. She’d never tire of the moments when Lucanis let down his guard, when his words carried the weight of feelings he struggled to express.
Their drinks arrived soon after, the contrast between them as stark as their personalities. Rook’s cup was a decadent creation, whipped cream piled high with a drizzle of caramel. Lucanis’ was, unsurprisingly, dark and unadorned.
He raised his cup, taking a slow sip, then eyed hers with a raised brow. “Is that coffee, or did you order a dessert buffet in a cup?”
“Don’t knock it till you try it,” Rook said, her tone daring. She scooped up a spoonful of whipped cream and held it out to him, leaning slightly forward.
He sighed theatrically but leaned closer, his lips brushing the spoon as he tasted the cream. When he sat back, he rubbed his chin as if deep in thought. “Sweet. Very sweet. Too sweet for me.” His smirk returned as he added, “But I can see why you like it.”
“Because I have excellent taste, Bello” Rook replied, taking a triumphant sip from her cup.
“No,” Lucanis said, his voice softening. He reached across the table and took her hand in his, the calluses of his palm a comforting contrast to the tenderness of the gesture. “Because you are sweetness itself, Uccellina.”
The air between them shifted, growing heavier with unspoken emotion. His thumb brushed over her knuckles, and when she looked into his eyes, she saw something she wasn’t sure she deserved but couldn’t help wanting.
“You’re too smooth for your own good,” she murmured, though her heart raced at the way his gaze never wavered.
Lucanis’ lips curved into a faint smile. “Perhaps. But tonight, I’ll indulge in saying what I mean. Sei la mia luce.”
Her breath hitched, and she gave his hand a small squeeze. “And you’re mine. Even if you do drink the bitterest coffee known to man.”
They laughed softly, the sound low and intimate, a shared moment that felt like it belonged only to them. As the evening deepened, Lucanis leaned back in his chair, his hand never leaving hers.
“I could sit here forever,” he said quietly, his voice like a promise. “With you. Just like this.”
Rook smiled, her heart full. “Then I guess you’ll have to get used to whipped cream.”
“For you?” he murmured, lifting her hand to his lips and brushing a kiss over her knuckles. His eyes met hers, dark and unwavering. “Sempre, Uccellina.”
The moment lingered, the world outside the tavern fading into irrelevance. There, in the golden glow of Treviso, they found something sweeter than any coffee: a quiet certainty that they had each found their place in each other.
